One would have hoped that, with the advances mankind has made in modern times, slavery would by now be non-existent. Sadly, this is not the case with an estimated 40 million people (including 15,000 in Australia) in slavery which is generating over $150 billion per year for exploiters.
This week we heard from Tony and Robin Stokes, members of Box Hill Central Rotary, about modern slavery which includes forced marriage, forced labour, debt bondage, domestic servitude, human trafficking, state imposed forced labour and sexual exploitation.
They are a part of the global network ‘Rotary Action Group Against Slavery which aims to eradicate slavery in the world by 2030. You can learn more, get involved and support their work by visiting https://ragas.online/
