The presentation this week was on a subject in which we all have a vested interest – leading a healthy and productive life as we grow old. Leading this presentation and subsequent discussion was Associate Professor Briony Dow the Executive Director of NARI. Interestingly, NARI was established some 42 years ago when Derek Prinsley became the first Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Melbourne on the initiative of the then Dean David Penington and the medical administrator John Shepherd, establishing a research institute at Mt Royal Hospital: originally called the National Research Institute for Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine it is now the National Ageing Research Institute. As we all know, Derek was a long-time member and Past President of our Club.
Briony left us each with a ‘Healthy Ageing Quiz’ which included practical tips for ageing well. If you didn’t get a copy, it is available on line Click Here
